Google was initially named Google ‘Backrub’
According to Google history, Google’s co-founder Larry Page and Sergey Brin originally named Google ‘Backrub’. They called it Backrub because the program analyzed the website’s backlinks to determine how valuable a website was. Backrub formerly operated on Stanford’s servers until it took up too much bandwidth.
In 1997, Larry Page decided that the Backrub name wasn’t good enough. The name ‘Google’ came from a graduate student at Stanford University named Sean Anderson, Koller writes. Anderson suggested the name ‘Googolplex’ and Larry Page countered with the short name ‘Googol’. They checked to see if that domain name is available but accidentally searched for ‘google.com’ instead of ‘googol.com’. Larry Page liked that name even more and registered ‘google.com’ on September 15, 1997.
The name Google derived from mathematical term Googol
The name ‘Google’ actually comes from the mathematical term ‘Googol’. It is 1 with 100 zeros following it. And this is also the reason why we pronounced it Goooooooooooogle.
Google’s I’m Feeling Lucky
I’m Feeling Lucky button costs the company about $110 million every year because it bypasses all ads to go to the top search immediately. So, if you type ‘CSA Labs’ in Google search box and click on I’m Feeling Lucky button, then it would directly take you to the top result, which would be CSA Labs.
But thanks to Google’s instant search, it starts searching for whatever you type in Google search box as soon as you type. Thereby, it minimizes the possibilities of users to click on I’m Feeling Lucky button to serve their search query.
Google regularly rents goats to mow
